mbr sector of the 0. physical disk (Olmarik.AJL trojan) replaces the original (Master Boot Record) of the hard disk drive with its own program code.



Win32/Olmarik is a Trojan horse that may secretly download and install malware on your computer. It may also display fake security warnings and misleading pop ups to scare you into downloading malicious software voluntarily. Usually, Win32/Olmarik displays misleading warnings saying that your computer is infected with spyware, viruses and other malicious software. If clicked upon, these fake security alerts begin downloading rogue anti-virus software or spyware. Win32/Olmarik may also collect data (keywords entered into search engines, operating system version, etc.) and serve as a backdoor. Some variants of this Trojan can be controlled remotely. For example: Win32/Olmarik.AGF. It also replaces the original (Master Boot Record) of the hard disk drive with its own program code. There is also the Win32/OlmarikTdl4 which is a newest version of this Trojan horse. Unfortunately, Win32/Olmarik can not be manually deleted. Thankfully, there are standalone removal tools that are capable of removing this dangerous infection from your computer for free. If you computer is infected with Win32/Olmarik, please follow the removal instructions below. Clarifications and comments are welcome as usual.

  • Run both programs and follow the on-screen instructions.



  • After the rebooting, please download and run anti-malware software (direct download) to remove the leftovers of this virus from your computer.


3) Repair the master boot record (MBR) by using Windows setup CD

  •  Inset your Windows setup CD
  •  When prompted select Recovery Console option
  •  Now go to C:\WINNT or C:\WINDOWS
  •  Next type following command:
               fixmbr \Device\HardDisk0

To solve this problem I went to system settings > advanced tab > performance > virtual memory, then disabled paging. (I selected "no page file." Setting the size to 0mb apparently doesn't work). Then, I enabled paging again. After a reboot, everything was fine. Windows didn't get stuck anymore and was able to shut down. or Hold, not just a quick press, the power button until it shuts down.

What is the difference between “size” and “size on disk”? I will be assuming that you are using the FAT/FAT32 filesystem here, since you mention this is a SD card. NTFS and exFAT behave similarly with regards to allocation units. Other filesystems might be different, but they aren't supported on Windows anyway. If you have a lot of small files, this is certainly possible. Consider this: 50,000 files. 32 kB cluster size (allocation units), which is the max for FAT32 Ok, now the minimum space taken is 50,000 * 32,000 = 1.6 GB (using SI prefixes, not binary, to simplify the maths). The space each file takes on the disk is always a multiple of the allocation unit size - and here we're assuming each file is actually small enough to fit within a single unit, with some (wasted) space left over.
